12 Days 'til the USA

The past 3 weeks or so have been quite busy.  Because of our limited time left as exchange students, not only have we started to focus on schoolwork because of final exams and papers due next week, but we've also tried to maximize our time together.

Three weekends ago, we went out to celebrate our friend Chia's birthday. But before that, I attended the Taipei 7th Ward's Summer Send-Off BBQ in Yangmingshan.  I got to spend some time with the other YSA's while chowing down on some much-needed "American" food such as hotdogs, burgers, Girl Scout cookies and peach cobbler.  For Chia's birthday, we had dinner at a Japanese Sashimi restaurant; it was very nice because all of us were together and just enjoyed each other's company.  Afterwards, we went over to the movie theater by Taipei 101 and watched MIB III. It was a very fun way to spend a Saturday.

On Sunday, our little group went to the National Palace Museum where, as much as we appreciated the history behind the artifacts, we spent more time being amused by the shiny jewels, old spears and paintings of monkeys. Needless to say, we didn't spend too much time there and instead came back home and played Uno after dinner.

During the week, my Chinese class met up twice; once to cook dishes from our own cultures and the next time to eat at a famous dumpling place in Taipei.  For our cooking afternoon, we had qiche de bleu and pan du chocolat from France, a type of French toast with cinnamon and sugar from the Netherlands, fried bananas for the Philippines and homemade dumplings for Taiwan.  It was a very satisfying and filling meal.

The next weekend, I spent most of it hanging out with Sarah, Jennifer and their friend Estelle. Friday night we went to Shida night market where we bought some cheap clothes and had a huge ice cream crepe (yep, it was in a crepe, not a cone). Saturday, we went to Zhongshan and shopped around for shoes and dresses-- a very girly weekend.
